WHY would anyone want to go back to film?
Well, there ARE reasons. Back in April of 2003, my lab started scanning the negatives to CD during the proofing process. I had no reason to make any changes in cameras or how I worked. I just continued how I had for so many years without missing a beat and had all of the advantages of digital with negatives as backup and no change in the way I worked.
The only reason that I was forced to switch to digital cameras and a whole different way of working was because of the economy and customers no longer willing to pay for film and processing and proofing all of the pictures. They preferred to see all of their pictures on the computer as thumbnails instead of printing proofs. I've found again and again that it is MUCH more difficult to see and choose the pictures from a computer screen then it is the actual picture as a 4x6 proof. But, these difficult times did not support "the best way of working" and so I had to adapt.
This morning I picked up one of my film cameras and started to smile. It just felt RIGHT. I was happy being a photographer again. Is this delusional? I think not.
There are many many reasons why film is a MUCH better photographic medium then digital is, and I'll be happy to explain the reasons to anyone who is interested.
For now, for anyone who might be interested, let it be said that film is again available out of my studio.
